Standing up for Canberra’s disengaged youth
Youth Connections is a program to assist disengaged young people, generally aged 13-19, to reconnect with education, training or employment. Youth Connections helps over 30,000 young Australians each year – around 20% of whom are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
In Canberra Youth Connections is run by Anglicare ACT, and helps over 1000 young Canberrans each year.
The Abbott Government has so far refused to guarantee funding for Youth Connections beyond this year, leaving youth organisations across the country in a state of uncertainty.
