It is with great sadness that today we learned of the tragic passing of Jayson Hinder – son, brother, husband, father, teammate and a friend to so many Canberrans.
Jayson was a Canberra native who loved the nation’s capital and its people.
He always strived to serve Canberra, through the law, philanthropy, sport and politics, and was renowned for his altruism and pragmatic approach to delivering for his community.
Jayson did this in many ways - fundraising for numerous community causes through the Motorcycle Riders Association of the ACT and ACT Veterans Rugby, as Chair and Director of Bendigo Bank in Canberra, through his law firm Jayson Hinder & Associates, and as the Labor Member for Ginninderra in the ACT Legislative Assembly.
Jayson’s love of Canberra and Canberrans was beautifully expressed in his first speech:
“Politics in my view is often also about compromise. This knowledge, coupled with the experience that I possess and my honest belief that we all here—Labor, Liberal and Greens—find ourselves in this place because we share a commitment to making Canberra as good as it can be, I trust will unite us when necessary to make the compromises needed to deliver the best outcomes for those we represent.”
There are heavy hearts across Canberra tonight as we reflect on Jayson's significant contribution to our community.
My thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Lisa, Nigel, Oliver, Madeleine, his family and friends.
Vale Jayson Hinder.
