Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for External Territories Warren Snowdon and Member for Canberra Gai Brodtmann have today paid tribute to the outgoing Administrator to Norfolk Island, the Hon. Neil Pope.

Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for External Territories Warren Snowdon and Member for Canberra Gai Brodtmann have today paid tribute to the outgoing Administrator to Norfolk Island, the Hon. Neil Pope.

“Neil Pope has occupied this role at a particularly difficult time for Norfolk Island, as it faces a number of economic challenges and decisions about its future,” Mr Snowdon said.

“Mr Pope has carried out his duties with sensitivity and care and can retire knowing he has made a significant contribution to the eventual resolution of these issues.”

“Mr Pope has a long history of public service, at both the local and state level, which meant he was well-equipped for the task,” Ms Brodtmann said.

“Apart from his public service, Mr Pope has also had extensive experience in business in the private sector, another qualification he brought to his role as Administrator.

“We wish both he and his wife Jennie well in this new stage of their lives, and thank them for their service to the people of Norfolk Island and to Australia.” Mr Pope is in Canberra today to appear before the Norfolk Island Economic Development Inquiry, having just completed his term serving as the Administrator of Norfolk Island, which began in April 2012.

Mr Pope served as the Member for Monbulk in the Victorian State Parliament from April 1982 to October 1992. He served as Minister for Labour from 1988 to 1992, and as Minister for School Education in 1992.
