Standing up for Canberra

This fortnight in Parliament

The Abbott Government used the last Parliamentary sitting fortnight to rush through a number of pieces of legislation before the end of the financial year.

The horror Budget is still dominating Parliamentary debate, and in the last fortnight I spoke against the Government’s cruel Budget cuts to programs that support apprentices.

I also spoke about an issue close to the hearts of many Canberrans – Mr Fluffy asbestos. I called on the Government to accept liability and work with the ACT Government to ensure Mr Fluffy homeowners receive support, compensation and certainty.

I had intended to speak against the legislation to repeal the price on carbon. However, the Government gagged debate on this bill, limiting the number of speakers in order to pass the legislation before the end of the financial year, so I was denied the opportunity to speak.

You can find a full list of my speeches from the last fortnight below.
