Statement on Attack at the Australian National University

Our thoughts are with the staff and students at the Australian National University following this morning's attack.

Every student and every staff member on campuses across Australia has the right to feel and to be safe.

We have contacted the university to extend our best wishes to those affected.

Our thanks to the authorities for dealing so swiftly with the matter.

What's the "solution" for Williamtown, Assistant Minister?

Labor is deeply concerned by this weekend's Newcastle Herald reports of a possible "cancer cluster" on Cabbage Tree Road and calls on the Turnbull Government to release its "solution" for Williamtown and incorporate a review of any cancer patterns into current studies.

This weekend's reports only further add to the considerable anxiety, distress and uncertainty in the Williamtown community caused by nearly two years of Turnbull Government inaction.

Bring It On

The advice from Infrastructure Australia to the Turnbull Government to begin and secure a High Speed Rail Link between Sydney and Canberra is welcome, and follows four years of inaction on this visionary project.

A study conducted by the former Labor Government in 2013 found that High Speed Rail could carry 84 million passengers each year, with express journey times of just 64 minutes between Sydney and Canberra.
