Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Gai Brodtmann has welcomed today’s launch of the Defence eHealth system, which was developed by the previous Labor Government.
“I welcome the Abbott Government’s decision to proceed with this worthy initiative,” Ms Brodtmann said.
“Labor announced the development of the Defence eHealth system in 2011, with the expectation that it would be implemented in 2014.
“We recognised that a comprehensive eHealth system linking health data from recruitment to discharge would offer greater flexibility to Defence families, who are regularly required to relocate.
“The launch of an ADF wide eHealth system will see Defence play a key national leadership role when it comes to eHealth data and information management.
“Labor understands that continually improving the quality and delivery of health care is an essential element in supporting our Defence personnel and their families.
“Labor’s proud record of delivery in this area also includes the provision of free basic medical services for Defence families.”
