I love this time of the year in Canberra.
Long, hot days with breathtaking sunsets. Warm early morning walks with what seems like half of Canberra out cycling, running or exercising the dog.
The excitement of end of school presentations and graduations and presenting my School Legends awards.
The conversations focused on cakes and recipes and giving. The anticipation of Christmas, holidays and unwinding with family and friends.
It’s a chance to breathe out, to reflect on the year that’s been and to look forward to the prospects and opportunities of the new year.
It’s also a chance to remember and toast those family and friends who are no longer with us.
I know many Canberrans travel at this time of year and, like so many of you, I’ll be heading to the South Coast.
If you’re travelling, please take care and remember to stop, revive, survive. If you’re heading to the beach, please swim between the flags and learn how to recognise rips and dangerous currents before you head into the water.
I wish you and your family and friends a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. My team and I look forward to advocating for you in 2018.
