Standing up for Canberra

The Chronicle: Merry Christmas Canberra

I love this time of the year.

It’s a time to reflect on the achievements of the last 12 months.

And it’s a time to thank those who have helped and supported us along the way.

So I’d like to thank my team for their outstanding service to the Canberra community in 2015.

And to my tireless volunteers who give countless hours of their time to help me best represent you, the people of Canberra.

I’d also like to thank everyone involved in this year’s School Legends Awards program – another reason why I love this time of the year.

I established the Schools Legends Awards in 2011 to recognise students who have overcome physical and personal challenges to achieve their goals.

So far I’ve presented awards to outstanding students at Gordon Primary, Canberra Grammar Junior School, Mawson Primary, St Mary MacKillop College and Malkara School. And I’ll be acknowledging many more between now and the end of the school year.
It’s an honour to recognise our quiet achievers, young Canberrans who show resilience, courage and a strength of character beyond their years.

As we draw towards the end of the year, I’m sure many of you are looking forward to some down time with family and friends over the summer break.

I’m looking forward to reading, writing, cooking and lazy days at the beach with Chris at our usual holiday rental at the South Coast.
I wish you and your family a happy and safe Christmas and New Year and a relaxing holiday season.

I look forward to advocating for you in 2016.
