Standing up for Canberra

The Chronicle: Donate Life in 2017

Canberrans are generous and altruistic people.

Which is why I’m concerned that we continue to lag behind much of the country when it comes to registering as an organ donor.

21 per cent of Canberrans have registered their decision regarding organ and tissue donation, well behind NSW, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia.

On 1 March, I'll attend the Gift of Life DonateLife Walk around Lake Burley Griffin. It’ll be my 11th walk since first organising it in 2006 to help raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donation.

Becoming an organ and tissue donor is a superpower. The average donor saves three lives. There are around 1600 people on transplant waiting lists right now. They could do with a superhero.
