Canberrans demand action on climate change

The Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Mark Butler, and the Member for Canberra, Gai Brodtmann met with more than 200 Canberrans at a climate change community forum last night.

The group was keen to learn more about Labor’s plan to tackle climate change, with particular interest in Labor’s goal to achieve 50 per cent renewable energy by 2030.

“Renewable energy has a bright future under Labor,” Mr Butler said.

“We will ensure Australia leads the world in this industry and grasps the opportunities presented by transitioning to a clean energy future.”

Member for Canberra Gai Brodtmann, who hosted the event, said it was an extraordinary turnout and shows the ACT community feels strongly about climate change.

“It was fantastic to see so many Canberrans interested in discussing the global challenge of climate change and Labor’s policies,” Ms Brodtmann said.

“Many voiced their concerns about the Abbott Government’s continued attack on the renewable sector. They want real action on climate change.”
