Lonely Planet's "Best in Travel 2018" list confirms what we already know about our nation’s capital – it’s the best place in Australia to visit and top three in the world, behind Seville and Detroit.
This is the highest ranking any Australian city has achieved in the annual international publication.
The ranking is tribute to the hardworking Canberrans in our tourism industry that work tirelessly for our great city.
Currently tourism contributes $2 billion to the ACT economy and is one of the largest employers.
Canberra has a lot to offer tourists from around the world – including Australia’s best national institutions and world class food and wine from the Capital Region.
Next year Canberra will host a number of unique events, including the 100th anniversary of the World War I Armistice at the Australian War Memorial and the first test cricket match at Manuka Oval.
Today’s announcement will only further enhance Canberra’s growing presence on the international stage, and we look forward to sharing our nation’s capital with the world.
