Reinstate Funding to ADCA
In late 2013 the Abbott Government inexplicably cut funding to the Alcohol and Other Drugs Council of Australia. ADCA is the peak body representing people and organisations working to reduce harm caused by alcohol and drug use. For almost 50 years, ADCA has built up the knowledge and resources that front line alcohol and drug workers rely on. The Abbott Government’s decision to defund ADCA means the sector will lose its national coordination and representation.
ADCA’s annual budget was around $1.5 million. The estimated cost of just one Australian living with foetal alcohol spectrum disorder is $15 million over their lifetime. Australians will be paying for this decision for generations to come.
