ELECTORATE OFFICER B (Chief of Staff)

Gai Brodtmann invites applications for a Chief of Staff. The Chief of Staff will have primary responsibility for strategic planning and managing a small hardworking team.

Responsibilities include:

• Strategic planning and implementation, including campaign planning and resource management
• Management of a team of four staff members and many volunteers, including providing performance feedback and developing staff competencies
• Policy work including research, analysis, policy development and stakeholder management
• Oversight of office to ensure constituents and organisations are provided with timely and appropriate service and the MP is aware of issues emerging from the community
• Representing the MP at meetings and functions when appropriate

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

• Previous experience managing a small team
• Previous experience in policy development 
• Previous campaign experience
• An understanding of the political environment and parliamentary processes
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Knowledge of the Canberra electorate
• Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2012-2015.

The position is based in Canberra.

A salary of between $88,622 and $101,017 will be determined commensurate with relevant skills and experience.  This includes an allowance in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work.

A probationary period of three months will apply.

ELECTORATE OFFICER A (Part-time)

Gai Brodtmann is looking for a part-time Electorate Officer to join her hardworking team.

Duties include:

• Providing advice and assistance to constituents and organisations
• Recording and prioritising incoming correspondence for the MP
• Drafting replies to general correspondence
• Ensuring the MP is aware of issues emerging from constituent inquiries and correspondence
• Assisting in event organisation

Applications will be assessed on the following criteria:

• Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• An understanding of the political environment and parliamentary processes
• Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to work in a small team environment
• Knowledge of the Canberra electorate

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2012-2015.

The position is based in Canberra.

The position is offered on a part time basis of 10 – 15 hours per week, negotiable. A full-time equivalent salary of between $48,017 and $64,532 will be determined commensurate with relevant skills and experience. 

A probationary period of three months will apply.
