Hong Kong Chamber: A Letter from Canberra (Oct 2017)

Nearly thirty years ago, as a newly minted graduate, I was in Hong Kong to study North East Asian perceptions of Australia as a manufacturing nation.

As a Royce scholar inspired by Ross Garnaut’s North East Asian Ascendancy, I travelled to Hong Kong, China, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea to interview officials, business people and journalists on their views of Australia beyond the “quarry and the farm”.

Hong Kong Chamber: A Letter From Canberra (Sep 2017)

As home to world class educational institutions, the seat of government and the centre of a Capital Region brimming with quality seafood and primary produce, the Australia-Hong Kong Free Trade Agreement has the potential to open up a range of opportunities for our nation’s bush capital, Canberra.

The Chronicle: Embracing Ageing

According to my Mum, who is a spritely 78, and empowered by the late Betty Friedan’s Fountain of Age, “older ain’t dead”.

The Chronicle: Sharing the Dignity

It’s in our fabric as Canberrans to wait patiently until Anzac Day to turn on our heaters.

Throughout April we shiver, waiting to fill our homes with warmth, change over to the winter-weight doona and pull out the puffy coats from the mothballs.

As you curl up in bed and turn your electric blankets to high, please think of those sleeping rough in the nation’s capital this winter.

On any given night, 1800 Canberrans are facing homelessness.
