Federal Member for Canberra Gai Brodtmann has welcomed today’s announcement that a new $10.7 million Canberra Institute of Technology campus will be located in the heart of the Tuggeranong Town Centre.
ACT Minister for Education Joy Burch today unveiled the customised refurbishment and fit-out for the campus, to be located on Anketell Street.
“I’ve been calling for new initiatives in the Tuggeranong Town Centre for years now and this is absolutely great news,” Ms Brodtmann said.
“Late last year I also wrote to the Minister asking for the campus to be located within an existing building, to bring new life into empty office space.
“So this is terrific news for Tuggeranong and Canberra.
“Over the last few years the town centre has fallen on hard times, with a number of shops and restaurants closing down and office space remaining vacant.
“Tuggeranong needs short, medium and long term plans to create a sustainable, vibrant town centre of density and vitality.
“The new campus will go some way towards this by bringing hundreds of extra students into Anketell Street."
The campus will begin offering courses to students from mid next year.
