Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Gai Brodtmann says leaked reports of the Government’s hard bargaining position on Department of Defence pay and conditions are bad for staff morale.
“Civilian Defence staff are already doing it tough,” Ms Brodtmann said.
“The Budget cut a massive 2,406 civilian Defence jobs, and increased the efficiency dividend by 0.25%.
“The Government’s ongoing reviews have created an atmosphere of uncertainty within the Department.
“Civilian defence staff are now finding out through the media that they face an offer of below inflation pay rises, fewer days off and an extended working week.
“I have significant concerns about the pressure this is placing on civilian Defence staff, who are critical to the overall capability of the Australian Defence Force.”
