Hands Off Canberra

The Turnbull Government’s decentralisation program shows the blatant and shameless pork barrel that is the APVMA relocation is just the thin edge of the wedge.

It wants to decimate Canberra by moving government departments to regional areas.

Six out of ten federal public servants already work outside Canberra.

This latest attack shows the Turnbull Government’s complete contempt and disdain for the nation’s capital.

We have until December to make the Turnbull Government change its mind.

Sign the petition demanding the Turnbull Government stops its attack on Canberra and abandons its decentralisation program.

There are plenty of public service departments with large offices in the States. What is now in Canberra needs to stay in Canberra.

The idea of decentralisation is not a good idea and will not work.

Why go to all the trouble of building a capital city (where nobody wanted it), then move substantial parts of it to the end of the world. What are younthinking Malcom? What will happen when Barny is kicked out after next election? Waste of money

This doesn’t only affect Canberra but the whole district and employment opportunities for our children too.

Canberra is our Capitol city and head offices of all Government departments should be in Canberra at the heart of our government. There are very important logistical reasons for this as previous governments knew and why Canberra was born in the first place. Head offices are not meant to be state based but to administer and manage Commonwealth departments for all Australians.

I have no problems with the concept of a decentralisation programme, but why not kill two birds with one stone by relieving population pressure on the major cities like Sydney and Melbourne and assessing which groups of public servants in those places it would make sense to move to regional areas. That’s assuming that our current federal government can walk and chew gum at the same time!

I’m appalled that this government can treat public servants and government departments as playthings to be shunted around the countryside for the sole benefit helping LNP member’s re-election and all at now benefit to the nation and at huge cost. Shameful.!
