The Chronicle: Time to DonateLife

Canberrans are the most altruistic people in the country.

We have the highest volunteering rate in Australia.

And last year we led the nation on organ and tissue donation, which was well above the national average.

Thanks to the generosity of eight donors and their families in the ACT, 17 people have received life-saving and life-transforming organ transplants.

As we bid farewell to DonateLife Week 2017, please make sure you have the conversation with your family and friends about your organ and tissue donation intentions.

If you want to make a difference to 10 lives or more, please put your name on the Australian Organ Donor Register today.

Even though 81 percent of Australians believe registration of donation decisions is important, only one in three Australians have joined the register.

And registration is important, because nine in ten families agree to donation proceeding when the deceased is a registered organ donor.

More than 1,400 Australians are waiting for transplant.

Please register to donate at www.donatelife.gov.au today.
