Labor has today welcomed the release of two reports by the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce (DART).
Labor will carefully consider DART’s recommendations and conclusions.
The reports have raised many serious issues that need to be handled with sensitivity and care.
“There is no place for any form of abuse or mistreatment inside or outside our armed forces,” Shadow Minister for Defence Stephen Conroy said.
“I know the ADF leadership take issues of abuse seriously and has made great progress in this area, but as they acknowledge there is still some way to go.”
“We will continue to provide bipartisan support to sensible approaches that best serve the interests of the victims,” Shadow Assistant Minister for Defence David Feeney said.
“Labor initiated the DLA Piper review. The Defence Abuse Response Taskforce was established as part of the government's response to the DLA Piper Review,” Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Gai Brodtmann said.
“Labor has sought a full briefing from the Defence Abuse Response Taskforce, following the release of two reports today.”
